Order of Kush Foundation Scholarship or Award

The ORDER OF KUSH Foundation supports and encourages individual and corporate
contributions to our Scholarship and Award Programs. Our goal is to assist students in their
academic endeavors, and to support the professions of Archaeology, History and Linguistics by
helping deserving and outstanding students attain their educational goals. Each year, the ORDER
OF KUSH Foundation Scholarships and Awards Program will provide funds to deserving
students at all levels of study. Additional funds will be granted in the form of fellowships,
research awards, recognition awards and educational stipends throughout the year. With your
help, we hope to reach many more students in the years to come, by creating new scholarships
opportunities and supporting our existing programs.

Corporations, association groups or individuals may contribute to any existing scholarship fund
or establish a new fund to honor a particular group or individual. To create and award a
scholarship or award fund for the upcoming year, contributors may establish an individual
restricted fund with a minimum contribution of $25,000.

Establishing a Scholarship or Award Fund

Proposed rationale for fund establishment and a statement on general fund purpose and intended
use will be presented to the ORDER OF KUSH Foundation Board of Directors for approval. Upon
acceptance of the criteria, the board will approve the fund. Criteria will be developed according to
the originator's specifications for the fund's use. Funds may also be established in the form of an
award, fellowship, research grant, or an educational stipend.

Establishing Criteria

Once a contribution is received for establishment of a scholarship or award fund, the Foundation
will provide the donor with a written donor checklist. (A sample is enclosed with examples to help
guide your choices of criteria.) After being completed by the donor, the form is returned to the
Foundation. The criteria are then drafted based on the donor's requests, and returned for the
donor's approval. Once agreement has been reached on the criteria for the fund, the document is
placed before the ORDER OF KUSH Foundation Board members and a motion is made to approve
the fund.

Differences Between Scholarships and Awards

The ORDER OF KUSH Foundation has both a Scholarship Program, and an Awards Program. The
Scholarship Program provides support for those individuals who are currently pursuing
educational programs ranging from undergraduate programs, internships, didactic programs, and
graduate and PhD programs.

Awards funds may take several different forms. The standard awards that are granted focus on
individual achievement in a particular area of endeavor. Research awards and fellowships are
granted on the basis of research proposals. There are also educational stipends offered to
professionals for the purpose of expanding knowledge, enhancing capabilities, and pursuing
excellence in their chosen area of the fields of history, archaeology, linguistics, or education.

Scholarships

Scholarship Selection Process

The ORDER OF KUSH Scholarship Committee, which is selected by the ORDER OF KUSH Board
of Directors, reviews all scholarship applications. All scholarship applicants are computer-ranked,
based on scholastic ability, professional potential and financial need. During the Scholarship
Committee selection meeting, the committee evaluates applicants' rankings and reviews criteria
established for each fund before making any award designation.

The Scholarship Committee meeting are hosted by the Order of Kush Board of Directors. Prior to
the meeting, ORDER OF KUSH Foundation staff prepares a list of scholarships to be awarded, the
number to be given, and amount to be awarded. Committee members refer to the scholarship
criteria book for description of awards and their criteria. All applications are checked to confirm
that they meet the criteria, at which time the committee determines the recipient of each award.

Awards

Whether an award, fellowship, research grant, or educational stipend, the process for determining
the recipients of awards is in many ways similar to the process used to determine the recipients of
scholarships. Each award is assigned an individual review committee consisting of three members
who have expertise or experience in the topic addressed by the award. The committees are
appointed by the ORDER OF KUSH Foundation Chair, and serve for three years, unless otherwise
stipulated by the award criteria. The applications are reviewed by each member based on the
criteria of the award. Each committee member assigns a score to each application, the scores are
tabulated, and the recipient is determined. The amounts disbursed from each award are determined
at the inception of the award, and may be adjusted at the discretion of the sponsors of the award.

Award Notification

Individuals who receive research grants, educational stipends, and fellowships are advised of
their responsibilities concerning the use of their award monies. These may include reporting
requirements, time limits, and/or monitoring of research or program progress.

Types of Scholarship and Award Funds

The Order of Kush Foundation Board of Directors has approved two types of funding programs
to which donors may contribute. These offer an array of opportunities for contributions and
include:

1. Temporarily Restricted Funds - those funds of the Foundation which are totally expendable
for the purpose of performing the primary focus of the Foundation: education, research, and
public service. Any individual, organization or group may contribute to a named scholarship or
award. Donors will work with an ORDER OF KUSH Foundation Team Member on establishing the
name of the fund and criteria. Any interest earned in individual restricted funds is applied to the
available balance and utilized for granting awards. There is no restriction on the amount of
individual restricted funds that may be expended for scholarships each year. All
funds/contributions remain in the available balance. The minimum to establish a temporarily
restricted fund is $25,000.

2.
Permanently Restricted/Endowed Funds - those funds where the principal is not expendable
by the Foundation. Awards are made only from the interest generated from investing the fund.
The minimum to establish a permanently restricted/ endowment fund is $50,000.

Financial Aspects of Fund Administration

Fund balance statements will be mailed annually along with a copy of the criteria sheets and
ORDER OF KUSH Foundation financial reports. It is at this time that the donors should review the
criteria sheet and submit any updates in contact names, addresses, etc., and send corrections and
changes to the ORDER OF KUSH Foundation Scholarship and Awards Manager.

Breakdown of Administrative Fees:

Each fund is charged an administrative fee of 10% of the amount awarded, at the time of
disbursement.

A fee of .04% is charged annually, and is based on the total balance of the fund. (available and
principal balance combined)

Administrative fees cover services such as the cost of managing the fund, investing the fund,
promotion, and expenses connected with the review committees and awarding the funds.

Any interest earned is applied to the available balance and utilized for granting awards.
